Efficacy of apical sealing ability of resilion/epiphany vs gutterpercha/ah26 sealer: an invitro study

Background:  Complete obturation of the root canal with an inert filing material and creation of an apical seal in general defines successful endodontic treatment. Aims and Objectives: To compare the apical sealing ability of Resilion / Epiphany and Gutta-percha obturation with AH 26 Sealers. Materials and Methods: An in-vitro study was conducted on 40 single rooted Mandibular Premolars extracted for orthodontic purpose. All specimen were prepared with Pro Taper, 5% sodium Hypochlorite and 17% EDTA solution and cemento-enamel junctions were cut with diamond disc. The specimens were randomly allotted to two experimental groups (Group A- Resilion/ Epiphany, Group B- Gutta-percha/ AH 26 Sealer. Methylene Blue dye centrifuging was used to test the apical sealing ability. Apical sealing of each specimen was measured after 30 days using optical microscope with stage micrometer.  SPSS V 16 used for statistical analysis. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two experimental groups (P<0.001). Resilion/ Epiphany showed less leakage compared to AH 26/gutta- percha group. Conclusion: Resilion/ Epiphany showed better sealing ability than the other two groups.
